Brought to America by Italian immigrants in the 1880s, this delicious, vitamin-rich vegetable is easy-to-grow, producing a very large head that is convenient to harvest. Plants are highly productive. Can be grown as spring or fall crop. Enjoy fresh or frozen, raw or steamed.
When and Where to Plant: Start seeds indoors or in hot bed 8-12 weeks before last frost. Set plants out after last frost, or sow directly outdoors in sunny location after last frost. Cultivate soil and enrich with vegetable food and organic matter. Firm soil over seed.
Care: Water regularly, feed every 4 weeks and protect from insects.
Harvesting: Cut 6 in. below central head when buds are still tight.
