Introduced in 1968 by Cornell University, the Marketmore has dark green cucumbers that grow to 8 in. long. They are easy-to-grow and produce an abundance of tender fruit throughout the summer. The elongated fruits of slicing types are perfect for salads and other fresh uses.
When and Where to Plant: Select a sunny, well drained location and sow seed in the late spring when the soil is warm, and all danger of frost is past. For earlier crop, start indoors 4-6 weeks before setting out. For best results, loosen soil with spade or fork, fertilize with vegetable food and smooth with rake. Firm soil over seed and keep moist.
Care: Keep soil moist, and feed monthly. Tie vines on trellis to save space.
Harvesting: Pick at any size up to 6-8 in./15-20 cm. and before fruit color begins to turn yellow. Pick regularly so fruit will continue to form.
